Prabowo to Discuss Defence and Energy Cooperation with Macron
President Prabowo Subianto will discuss several key issues and cooperation across various sectors with French President Emmanuel Macron in France. This includes defence and clean energy cooperation, education, research, and the implementation of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), he stated during his speech in France on Thursday, 28 May 2026 evening.
“We thank President Macron for his support in accelerating these developments,” he added.
Prabowo emphasised that bilateral relations between Indonesia and France are currently in excellent condition, reinforced by shared perspectives and alignment in responding to international dynamics and strategic issues.
“In several aspects, Indonesia and France share similar positions, and our bilateral relations are very strong, which is due to the direct support of President Emmanuel Macron,” he said.
The head of state also aims to enhance cooperation across sectors with France. “We want to strengthen this cooperation, increase investments in both countries, and I am delighted to welcome the establishment of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council,” he concluded.
He noted that multidimensional cooperation between the two nations has rapidly developed across critical sectors. Beyond defence as the main pillar, collaboration in science and technology has also shown significant progress.
“In defence, our relations are strong; in science and technology cooperation, they are also strong; in education, we wish to further enhance it,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo expressed his delight at French companies participating in Indonesia’s economy, stating France plays a significant role in Southeast Asia.
“This is very important, and we will be very pleased with the continued participation and presence of French companies in Indonesia’s economy. France, as a European leader, will continue to play a crucial role in Southeast Asia,” he said.
