Prabowo to Develop 100 GWp Solar Power Plants; Business Leaders Call for Easier Regulations
President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated a programme to develop 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) of solar power plants (PLTS) by 2029, alongside a plan to decommission 13 gigawatts of diesel power plants (PLTD) as a strategy to strengthen national energy independence and self-sufficiency.
The CEO of Solar Karya Indonesia, Christopher Liawan, has welcomed the target for solar power development as a vision for Indonesia’s accelerated energy transition towards New and Renewable Energy (EBT). Business leaders hope that this ambitious solar target will be accompanied by strengthened regulations, improved infrastructure, and the development of domestic supply chains for supporting components.
The development of 100 GWp of solar power could serve as a driver for Indonesia’s economic growth, potentially creating jobs, stimulating industrial development in related sectors, and accelerating the nation’s energy transition.
