Prabowo to Deliver Economic Policy Speech at DPR Plenary Session
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the DPR Plenary Session on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 to deliver a speech on economic policy. Deputy Speaker of the House Saan Mustopa said that Prabowo is the first president in history to directly present the macroeconomic framework and the main elements of fiscal policy, or KEM-PPKF.
“That is the plan. So, for the delivery of the macroeconomic framework, as well as the main elements of fiscal policy that will be delivered directly by the President,” the NasDem Party politician said at the DPR Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
According to Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, usually this annual activity is conducted by the relevant minister. However, he stated that Prabowo’s move is permissible since the ministers’ role has historically been that of the vice president.
The Gerindra Party politician declined to explain the reasons behind the Head of State’s decision. “There are no rules that would prevent a President from delivering it directly. It is allowed. This is, after all, an introduction to the preparation of the 2027 APBN,” he said, on Tuesday.
