Prabowo to Decide Bank Indonesia Governor Candidate This Week

President Prabowo Subianto will decide on the name of the candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) this week, following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo some time ago. “God willing, it will be decided this week,” said Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi to reporters on Thursday (6/8/2026). The candidate will first be proposed to the House of Representatives (DPR). A fit and proper test will then be conducted by Commission XI of the DPR. The result will be brought to the DPR Plenary Session for approval. If the proposal is accepted, it will be submitted to the Supreme Court for the oath of office. Several names have emerged as candidates for BI Governor. One of them is Destry Damayanti, who currently serves as the Acting Governor of BI after the position was vacated by Perry. The DPR is currently in recess. The Presidential Letter will only be received and announced by the DPR on 14 August 2026 during the Plenary Session.
