Prabowo to Danantara: Safeguard State Wealth, the Nation's Hopes Rest on Your Shoulders
JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto has issued strict instructions to the Investment Management Board (BPI) Danantara to maintain integrity and governance standards whilst managing state assets. With assets under management totalling US$1 trillion, the head of state has reminded the institution that it holds the key to the welfare of Indonesia’s future generations.
“I entrust you with vigilance and awareness. Remember that the hopes of our entire nation, our entire people, rest on your shoulders, because you are safeguarding and managing the wealth of our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren,” said Prabowo during Danantara’s first anniversary thanksgiving ceremony at Wisma Danantara in South Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
The President emphasised that poor management is the primary threat to any sovereign wealth fund. He is determined to prevent Danantara from suffering the same fate as similar institutions in other countries that have incurred substantial losses due to weak governance.
“Many sovereign wealth funds have experienced losses. Many sovereign wealth funds in the wealthiest countries have also incurred losses because of poor management,” Prabowo explained.
To ensure transparency and prevent leakage, President Prabowo has implemented a stringent oversight system. In addition to the Supervisory Board comprising coordinating ministers, the President has engaged all law enforcement and security apparatus.
The agencies involved in overseeing Danantara include the State Audit Board (BPK), BPKP, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Police (Polri), and the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). The President has even opened the possibility of appointing special representatives at each state-owned enterprise managed by Danantara.
“We must oversee this because it is the lifeblood of the Indonesian nation. If this blood continues to leak, our nation will be in difficulty,” he concluded.
Since its launch on 24 February 2025, Danantara has become the driving force behind the transformation of Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises. The institution is tasked with unifying the investment direction of state-owned companies that previously operated independently, bringing them under a single national orchestration to optimise natural resources and add economic value for the country.
