Prabowo to Close 13 Diesel Power Plants, Aiming to Save Up to 20 Percent on Fuel Imports
President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the government plans to close 13 diesel power plants (PLTD). This is part of the commitment to promote new renewable energy.
“There will be no more power plants using diesel or solar oil. No. With that, we will close 13 diesel power plants at PLN, we will close them,” Prabowo emphasised during the inauguration of the VKTR electric vehicle factory in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4).
According to Prabowo, this step could save up to 20 percent of fuel oil (BBM) imports. In addition, the closure of the PLTD is estimated to reduce consumption by up to 200,000 barrels of oil per day.
“From the closure, we will save 200,000 barrels per day. Currently, we still import around 1 million barrels per day. So, by closing the PLTD, we immediately save 20 percent,” he explained.
Furthermore, Prabowo targets the construction of solar power plants (PLTS) with a capacity of up to 100 gigawatts in the next two years. This programme is believed to further reduce dependence on BBM imports.
“With 100 gigawatts of PLTS, the savings will be much greater. Perhaps in 2-3 years ahead, we won’t need to import BBM at all. We have great potential,” he concluded.
