Prabowo to Build Homes for Residents Along Senen Railway Tracks, Pramono Supports
President Prabowo Subianto has ordered several ministers and PT KAI executives to build decent housing for residents living along the railway tracks in the Senen area of Central Jakarta. The Jakarta Provincial Government is following Prabowo’s directive on the matter.
“The Jakarta Provincial Government will provide full support for what the central government is doing to address housing along the railway tracks,” said Pramono to reporters at Tosari Shelter, Central Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026).
Pramono explained that this has been an ongoing issue over time. He stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government has begun addressing housing problems for residents around public cemeteries (TPU).
“Indeed, it has been a recurring problem that the Jakarta Government has actually started to handle, including residents—apologies—who live in TPU (Public Cemetery). Actually, the biggest issue now is those living in TPU,” he said.
Pramono stated that residents living in TPU are now being relocated to high-rise buildings. Meanwhile, the TPU will later be used for new housing.
“So, those in TPU we relocate to existing high-rise buildings. We utilise the TPU for new housing placements. And now, with this method, it’s firstly much neater,” he said.
“Secondly, we want to move them to existing high-rise buildings; for six months we provide it for free, but after that we ask them to pay rent or fully. Thus, returning to the initial question, the government will fully cooperate with the central government for handling that,” he concluded.
Previously, Prabowo met with residents or conducted a walkabout along the railway tracks in the Senen area of Central Jakarta. After absorbing the community’s aspirations, Prabowo ordered several ministers and PT KAI executives to build decent housing for residents living along the railway tracks in Senen.
“Last night, after the walkabout greeting residents along the railway tracks in the Senen area of Central Jakarta,” wrote Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya on the Setkab Instagram account, Friday (27/3).
Prabowo gave the order to Minister of Transportation Maruarar Sirait, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Acting Director of Perumnas Imelda Alini Pohan, and PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin. The order was given in a limited meeting chaired by Prabowo.
“President Prabowo directly ordered the Minister of Housing via telephone (as he was in Toba, represented by the Secretary General), the Minister of Public Works, the President Director of Perumnas and KAI (Kereta Api Indonesia), as well as several related officials to build housing for residents still living along the railway tracks.”
