President Prabowo Subianto has stated that three additional interactive smart boards will be provided to every school this year. The Prabowo administration had previously provided assistance in the form of one digital interactive whiteboard or smart board to schools.

Prabowo conveyed the plan to add smart boards during his visit to South Leato, Gorontalo, on Saturday, 9 May 2026. Prabowo asked local officials whether schools in Gorontalo had received the smart boards.

In Gorontalo, schools have received one smart screen each. Prabowo said the number would be increased. “Starting this year, every school will receive three (smart boards),” he stated.

With the addition of one unit, every school will have at least four smart boards. The Chairman of the Gerindra Party also targets that by the end of this year, every school will have four classrooms equipped with smart screens.

Prabowo claimed that smart boards would help teachers in remote areas. “Teachers in difficult places can be assisted from the centre with lessons, additional syllabi, and teaching materials,” he said.

In addition, the former defence minister said the government could monitor all classrooms across Indonesia from Jakarta using smart boards. “So if there are teachers who don’t show up, we can see which teachers are absent that day,” Prabowo explained.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) had previously distributed 288,865 digital interactive panels or interactive flat panels (IFP) to educational units throughout Indonesia in 2025.

Basic and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti said the distribution of these digital devices was intended to expand access and improve the quality of learning in schools. “The implementation of programmes and activities in Kemendikdasmen in the 2025 fiscal year has achieved outcomes at the national level,” Mu’ti stated during a Working Meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday, 21 January 2026.

In addition to digital interactive panels, Kemendikdasmen distributed laptops and external hard drives to hundreds of thousands of educational units. This technological support is complemented by providing internet access to 8,152 schools and electricity services to 2,389 educational units, especially in areas previously not reached by basic infrastructure.
