Prabowo: Those Daring to Drive Lamborghinis Must Pay for Expensive Fuel

President Prabowo Subianto has asserted that wealthy segments of society must be willing to pay high prices for fuel. The head of state made the remarks while inaugurating the mandatory 50 per cent biodiesel blend, known as B50, at the rest area at KM 57 of the Cikampek Toll Road in Karawang Regency, West Java.

In his speech, Prabowo claimed that the world has praised Indonesia for not raising fuel prices for ordinary people. He stressed that subsidised fuel prices must be kept under control, in contrast to non-subsidised fuel used by the well-off.

“I was surprised myself — world leaders are talking about how Indonesia managed not to panic and did not raise fuel prices for the common people. For the rich, it’s no problem,” Prabowo said in Karawang, West Java, on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

Prabowo then mentioned several business figures present at the event, among them Garibaldi ‘Boy’ Thohir of Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk, Arsjad Rasjid of PT Indika Energy Tbk, and Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of the Danantara Investment Management Agency, who also has a business background.

For Prabowo, wealthy people who dare to buy luxury vehicles should likewise have no issue paying high fuel prices.

“Boy, yes, Boy. You have no problem (paying more), Boy. Who else has no problem? Ha ha. Arsjad, you dare to drive a Lamborghini, so you must pay more, ha ha. Rosan, you have no problem either, right, Rosan?” Prabowo said, drawing laughter from the audience.

Prabowo has officially launched the national implementation of B50 biodiesel. He said Indonesia is the first country to implement a mandatory 50 per cent biodiesel blend on a national scale.

The B50 programme requires the blending of 50 per cent palm oil-based biodiesel into diesel fuel. “With the launch of this programme, Indonesia officially becomes the first country in the world to implement B50 biodiesel,” Prabowo said.

The former defence minister from the Joko Widodo era said B50 biodiesel is not merely a technological achievement, but proof that Indonesia can harness its own natural wealth for the benefit of its people. For Prabowo, the implementation of B50 marks an important milestone towards national energy independence, as he believes a nation’s survival is determined by its ability to produce its own food, energy and water.
