Prabowo: Those Daring to Drive Lamborghinis Must Pay for Expensive Fuel

President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that the wealthy must be willing to pay more for fuel. The Head of State made the remarks while inaugurating the mandatory 50 percent biodiesel blend, known as B50, at the KM 57 Rest Area on the Cikampek Toll Road in Karawang Regency, West Java. During his speech, Prabowo claimed that the world has praised Indonesia for not raising fuel prices for ordinary citizens. He emphasised that subsidised fuel prices must be held down, unlike non-subsidised fuel used by the affluent. “I was surprised myself, world figures are talking about Indonesia, how Indonesia succeeded in not panicking and not raising fuel prices for the little people. For the rich, it’s not a problem,” Prabowo said in the Karawang area, West Java, on Thursday, 9 July 2026. Prabowo then mentioned several business figures present at the event. They included Garibaldi ‘Boy’ Thohir, boss of PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk.; Arsjad Rasjid, boss of PT Indika Energy Tbk.; and Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of the Danantara Investment Management Agency, who has a background as an entrepreneur. For Prabowo, wealthy individuals who can afford to buy luxury vehicles should not question paying higher prices for fuel. “Boy, yes, Boy. You have no problem paying more, Boy. Who else has no problem with this? Ha ha. Arsjad, if you dare to drive a Lamborghini, you must pay more, right, ha ha. Rosan also has no problem, right, Rosan,” said Prabowo, drawing laughter from the attendees. Prabowo officially launched the nationwide implementation of the B50 biodiesel programme. He stated that Indonesia is the first country to implement a mandatory 50 percent biodiesel blend nationally. The B50 programme requires a 50 percent blend of palm oil-based biodiesel into diesel fuel. “With the launch of this programme, Indonesia officially becomes the first country in the world to implement B50 biodiesel,” Prabowo said. The former Defence Minister under the Joko Widodo administration stated that B50 biodiesel is not merely a technological achievement but proof that Indonesia can utilise its natural wealth for the benefit of its people. He described the implementation of B50 as a milestone towards national energy self-sufficiency, arguing that a nation’s survival is determined by its ability to produce its own food, energy, and water sources.
