Prabowo: There Must Be No Hungry People in Indonesia!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that there must be no hungry people in Indonesia. This assertion was made by Prabowo during the inauguration of the electric commercial vehicle assembly facility owned by PT Vektor Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk. in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026).
The inauguration was also attended by, among others, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister for State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Governor of Central Java Ahmad Luthfi, and VKTR’s President Commissioner Anindya Novyan Bakrie, who is also the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Initially, Prabowo stated that nowadays, every nation must be self-reliant in the most critical sectors. Food and energy are the top priorities.
“A nation as large as ours, if it still wants to be independent, if it still wants to survive and stay alive, like it or not, we must be self-reliant, and energy is one of the sectors that is very determining,” said Prabowo.
The Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party revealed that Indonesia is now self-reliant in food. This is the result of good cooperation among many parties.
“We are relatively self-sufficient; there might be a few more commodities. The point is, we are no longer afraid of food issues. What is important now is equitable distribution. There must be no hungry people in Indonesia,” Prabowo stated.
Furthermore, he said that in the energy sector, Indonesia is very rich. There are abundant energy sources.
“So, amid the global crisis, many countries are anxious; we must be vigilant, but we are optimistic; we will face the challenges in the coming months. But we have resources; we have very strong and abundant sources,” said Prabowo.
