Prabowo: The World Is Full of Conflicts, Indonesia Must Strengthen Its Defences

Jakarta, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has reinforced the nation’s defence as global geopolitics remain volatile. ‘There are many conflicts in the world now, wars everywhere. We are grateful to the Almighty, we are still not involved. But we are vigilant,’ Prabowo said in Kebumen, Central Java, broadcast live on the Presidency Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Saturday, 23 May 2026. ‘We must have strength, that’s why we are building our defence capability to safeguard our wealth,’ he asserted. According to Prabowo, Indonesia is now managing its own natural wealth. Do not let Indonesia be manipulated and exploited by certain parties. ‘We do not want our wealth to be continually toyed with by certain people, by certain countries,’ he said. ‘And this we have done. We must do this; this is the mandate from the 1945 Constitution. And this is for the prosperity of all Indonesian people, not just a few.’ He noted that Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in several agricultural sectors. ‘In 19 months, alhamdulillah, a lot has been achieved. We are now food self-sufficient. We are self-sufficient in rice and maize,’ Prabowo said. He further stated that Indonesia must also aim for self-sufficiency in animal protein production. ‘Eggs, poultry, and meat we have not yet achieved. This is being worked on; perhaps in four to five years we will achieve self-sufficiency in meat. Our food security remains relatively secure,’ he asserted.
