Prabowo: The World Is Dangerous, Indonesia Must Unite
The Bantargebang tragedy serves as evidence of systemic failure.
President Prabowo Subianto has called on the public to maintain unity amid a global situation deemed increasingly unpredictable. He believes the world currently faces various tensions that could potentially threaten stability and peace.
The message was conveyed by Prabowo whilst delivering remarks at the State Palace commemoration of Nuzulul Quran on Tuesday 10 March. He stated that the current global situation is filled with uncertainty and even danger, as many conflicts involve major powers.
“In the current world filled with uncertainty and even danger, where many world leaders with great power have not smoothly maintained the peace we need, which is needed by all humanity,” said Prabowo.
In such circumstances, he believes national unity is essential for Indonesia to confront various global challenges.
“We as an Indonesian nation, together with many other nations, need to build unity amongst ourselves, to foster harmony amongst ourselves, to face this situation full of uncertainty, to face this situation full of danger,” he said.
Prabowo stressed that as president, his primary responsibility is to protect all Indonesian people regardless of any background.
“My duty as President of the Republic of Indonesia is to protect all Indonesian territory, all Indonesian people. All Indonesian people, whatever their ethnicity, whatever their race, whatever their religion must be protected, must be guarded, must be cared for, must be looked after, must be nurtured,” he explained.
He also affirmed that Indonesia’s foreign policy direction continues to prioritise friendship with all nations. Prabowo is committed to maintaining friendship and good relations with all countries and all powers, from the greatest to the smallest.
According to him, maintaining peace requires not just hope but must be accompanied by hard work to create justice and prosperity.
Prabowo also touched on the importance of eradicating corruption, which he views as an obstacle to national progress. “No country succeeds if its government cannot cleanse itself of corruption,” he said.
Therefore, the Head of State called upon all elements of the nation to work together in facing various challenges ahead. “Let us unite, let us work hard, let us secure and save all our people,” he concluded.
Power is also a duty to safeguard the welfare of the people and ensure justice is felt by all society, he added.
Prabowo gathered several ministers and reminded them of possible economic impacts from Middle Eastern conflicts.
Such conditions put many countries at risk of being drawn into more difficult economic and political situations.
Indonesia is valued as having strong food security, thus remaining safe even though many other countries face difficulties from global turmoil.
