Prabowo: The Problem of the Indonesian Nation is Red Tape

President Prabowo Subianto has stressed the urgency of bureaucratic reform in the lives of the nation’s citizens. He made the remarks during a speech at the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD in commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026).

According to him, bureaucracy must not obstruct good decisions. Prabowo then acknowledged that the nation’s problem is convoluted bureaucracy.

“Bureaucracy that does not work efficiently, bureaucrats who often use their positions and authority to enrich themselves, their families, and their groups, must be eradicated,” he said.

The Chairman of the Gerindra Party said that solving this problem requires unity among leaders and community groups.

“The state must make things easier for the people, not more difficult,” Prabowo stated.

He further said that this context applies not only to the central government but also to provincial and district/city governments. Prabowo also requested that the government listen to the voice of the people.
