Prabowo: The President Must Be Present in Person to Deliver the Core Economic Policy
JAKARTA — President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto said he believes it is necessary for the president to attend the DPR Plenary Session in person to present the core ideas on the economy and the state’s management to the House in the face of the current global economic situation.
‘Because of the conditions we are facing, I am of the opinion that the President of the Republic of Indonesia should be present in person to deliver the core ideas on the economy and the management of the state,’ Prabowo said in his address at the DPR’s Plenary Session, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
Prabowo said he deliberately requested time to stand before the people’s representatives.
‘We now as a nation face geopolitical and geo-economic challenges full of conflict, tensions, and uncertainty,’ he said.
‘Wars are taking place in many places, even in Europe, in the Middle East, in regions far from us, but which have a very large impact on our lives,’ he added.
Prabowo becomes the first president to personally present the government’s macroeconomic and fiscal policy directions for the year before the DPR RI.
The plenary session also discussed the evaluation of changes to the second revision to the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) for 2026 Priority Bills, and heard the views of factions related to the Police Bill proposed by Commission III of the DPR.
