Prabowo: The Heinous Murder of Marsinah Was Unnecessary

The brutal murder of Marsinah, a labour activist fighting for workers’ rights in a factory, was entirely unnecessary,” Prabowo said in his speech on Saturday, 16 May 2026.

“Because our country was founded on the fundamental philosophy of Pancasila, which is the brilliance of our founding fathers, and it is enshrined in our constitution and its preamble, and it is the consensus agreement,” he said.

He also spoke of the greatness of Pancasila, saying that it could unite all the people and even drive out the colonisers.

“We were able to unite, among other things, because of Pancasila. Hundreds of different ethnic groups, with different regional languages, religions, and races, we were able to unite and face the foreign invaders, the victors of World War II, Britain, who returned to pave the way for the Netherlands to regain power. We faced them,” he said.

“We faced Japan, we faced various efforts from major countries to divide Indonesia,” he added.

Also present at the event were the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) and initiator of the museum’s construction, Andi Gani Nena Wea, Minister of Environment Jumhur Hidayat and Regent of Nganjuk Marhaen Djumadi.

Also present were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Speaker of the MPR Ahmad Muzani, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Deputy National Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
