Prabowo: The Free Nutritious Meal Programme Will Continue, with No Tolerance for Corruption
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto affirmed that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme will continue, with the caveat that there must be no corruption.
“MBG will continue, but we must ensure internal order. There must be no corruption,” Prabowo said during the Grand Harvest of Corn and Groundbreaking of 10 Food Security Warehouses of the National Police, in East Java, Saturday (16/5/2026).
“MBG is so important, so strategic for the people. With the Merah Putih Cooperative, MBG, and fishing villages, it is supported by our agricultural capabilities and our fisheries,” he said.
According to him, with current agricultural capabilities, national food production is guaranteed to be secure and has successfully achieved self-sufficiency for major carbohydrate (rice, corn) and animal protein commodities.
“Food production in Indonesia will be secure because carbohydrates and protein are available, as well as livestock. Corn is strategic for animal feed. So our sovereignty is maintained and secured,” Prabowo said.
According to him, a soldier cannot carry out operations without the availability of food, especially rice.
Therefore, combat commanders must understand the importance of food in every military operation.
“I am close to farmers because I was Chairman of HKTI for quite some time, and now I have been replaced by the current Chairman, who is the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sudaryono,” Prabowo said.
Therefore, Prabowo said, soldiers are also taught how to survive when they do not have food.
