Prabowo: The Danger of Nuclear War Cannot Be Underestimated
President Prabowo Subiability is wary of the conflicts occurring in various parts of the world. He assessed that with the many battles currently taking place, the danger of nuclear war cannot be underestimated.
According to Prabowo, the current global situation is highly volatile. “Terrible wars are happening everywhere,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party during a speech before the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, 31 July 2026.
He cited the major war in Europe between Ukraine and Russia as an example. Prabowo noted that this conflict has lasted longer than World War I, which took place from 1914 to 1918. He even suggested that the war in Ukraine, which began in 2022, could potentially last longer than World War II. “World War II began in September 1939 and lasted until mid-May 1945. The war in Ukraine might also last longer than World War II,” he stated.
Prabowo remarked that the escalation of conflict in other regions is occurring even as the war in Ukraine continues. “The situation in Gaza, Lebanon, and the Middle East is erupting even more severely. In the Strait of Hormuz, the situation involving Iran has not yet been resolved,” said the former defence minister.
Observing these conditions, Prabowo expressed vigilance regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons. “Indeed, the danger of nuclear war cannot be underestimated, whether in Ukraine or the Middle East,” he said.
In the same speech, Prabowo also touched upon the increasingly critical situation in the Middle East. “Every evening, every night, we see in the news: escalation, escalation, escalation,” he said.
Prabow remarked that there are claims that Iran already possesses nuclear weapons. He assessed that such a condition could prompt other nations to desire similar weaponry. “It is said that Iran already has nuclear weapons. Now Saudi Arabia wants them too. If Saudi Arabia wants nuclear weapons, it is not impossible that the UAE will want them, Qatar will want them, and Egypt will want them,” he noted.
President Prabowo delivered this speech before entrepreneurs from Kadin Indonesia at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Approximately 150 business leaders were in attendance this Friday.
The Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Anindya Novyan Bakire, stated that leaders from Kadin across 38 provinces attended President Prabowo’s invitation. “They wanted to discuss how we can collectively boost regional economies,” Anindya said at the Palace.
In addition to Kadin leaders, Anindya mentioned that the meeting was attended by thirty business associations and unions. “Therefore, the discussion should be very interesting,” he said.
Previously, he noted, Prabowo had invited Kadin entrepreneurs to his private residence in Hambalang, West Java, in August last year. At that time, Anindya conveyed that President Prabowo warned that global economic and geopolitical conditions would be turbulent, much like the current situation.
