Prabowo Thanks Putin for Helping Indonesia Join BRICS: We Were Accepted So Quickly
JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto conveyed his thanks to Russian President Vladimir Putin for helping Indonesia join the BRICS group of nations. According to Prabowo, Russia’s support for Indonesia in the process of joining BRICS is an important step in strengthening Indonesia’s position on the global stage. “I am here today mainly to express my thanks to President Putin and the Russian Government for Russia’s support to Indonesia. First, we were accepted so quickly into BRICS,” Prabowo stated during his meeting with Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on Monday (13/4/2026). BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. Meanwhile, Putin welcomed Indonesia’s membership in BRICS. “Indonesia has become a member of BRICS. This opens up new opportunities to develop our cooperation,” Putin said. Through this meeting, Indonesia and Russia affirmed their joint determination to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand the Indonesia-Russia strategic partnership.
