Prabowo Thanks PDIP, Puan Says Building the Nation Cannot Be Done Alone

House Speaker Puan Maharani assessed that President Prabowo Subianto’s remarks mentioning PDIP during the Annual MPR Session were an invitation to build solidarity. She stated that the development of the nation and state cannot be done alone and that existing differences should not obstruct joint efforts for the benefit of Indonesia. “As long as it is for the nation and state, of course we must be united, together,” Puan said after a plenary meeting on the 2027 State Budget Draft at the parliament complex in Jakarta on Friday, 14 August 2026. Puan also responded to Prabowo’s statement describing the government’s current steps as part of ‘Marhaenism’. The PDIP central board official said her party shares the same stance if the policies implemented by the government are oriented towards the people’s interests. Therefore, Puan confirmed that her party will work alongside the government as long as the policies taken are aimed at the interests of the nation and state. “Of course, PDI Perjuangan will work hand in hand, cooperate to jointly support the government’s policies,” she said. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto appreciated the increasingly synergistic cooperation between the government and the House of Representatives. However, Prabowo stressed that this synergy does not mean democracy in Indonesia has ceased to function. “I am grateful that now there is very synergistic cooperation between the government and the DPR. This does not mean there is no democracy,” Prabowo said. Prabowo also conveyed special appreciation to PDIP. He linked the government’s policy of strengthening the position of domestic producers and commodities to the idea of Marhaenism, which is one of the foundations of PDIP’s struggle. “And special thanks once again to PDIP. Actually, this is not Prabowonomics, this is Marhaenism,” Prabowo stated.
