Prabowo Thanks Parliament, Puan Says Nation-Building Cannot Be Done Alone

House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker and PDI-P Central Board Chair Puan Maharani responded to President Prabowo Subianto’s expression of gratitude for the synergy with the DPR, especially towards PDI-P. Puan stated that building the nation cannot be done alone. “Yes, alhamdulillah, thank you. In building the nation and state, we believe it cannot be done alone,” Puan said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). Puan reiterated President Prabowo’s statement that everything must be united. She assessed that differences are not a barrier to developing the country. “So, as the President said earlier, whatever differences exist, as long as it is for the nation and state, of course we must be able to be united together,” she added. Puan emphasised that as long as it is for the people’s interests, PDI-P is ready to work hand in hand to support the government’s steps. “Of course, as long as it is for the people’s interests, Mr Prabowo conveyed that we are the same. That everything is solely for the interests of the nation and state,” Puan said. “And we, as long as these are government policies for the nation and state, of course PDI Perjuangan will work shoulder to shoulder, cooperating to jointly support what the government’s policies are,” she revealed. Previously, Prabowo had expressed appreciation for the synergy between the government and the DPR in supporting the national progress agenda. He mentioned that the government and DPR have worked swiftly to continuously address the people’s needs. “I am grateful that there is now very synergistic cooperation between the government and the DPR. This does not mean there is no democracy; we must have democracy, we must be criticised, but we must work quickly for our people, and I think this has been produced by the current DPR RI, I thank you,” he said. Prabowo also specifically appreciated PDI-P. He joked that his policy model is not ‘Prabowonomics’, but ‘Marhaenism’, which is synonymous with Sukarno, making PDI-P’s support for him inevitable. “And special thanks once again to PDI-P. Actually, this is not Prabowonomics, this is Marhaenism. It would be difficult for PDI-P not to support this,” Prabowo said, greeted by a roar of applause. For context, Marhaenism is a socio-economic political ideology conceived by Sukarno. Marhaenism aims to liberate the common people from the oppression of capitalism, imperialism, and feudalism.
