JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto expressed thanks for Japan providing Indonesian citizens (WNI) with numerous opportunities to study and intern in the country.

This statement was delivered by Prabowo in the presence of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during a joint press statement at Akasaka Palace, Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (31/3/2026).

“Indonesia greatly appreciates and thanks for all the assistance provided to Indonesia in economic development. We are also very grateful that our young people are given many opportunities to study in Japan in all fields, and many of our workers are also allowed to intern in Japan,” said Prabowo, quoted from Kompas TV footage on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

He also emphasised that Indonesia and Japan are committed to continuing to maintain and enhance the good relations that have been ongoing.

In addition, he invited Japan to collaborate with Indonesia in various fields.

The cooperation includes economic collaboration in critical minerals, rare earth metal development, renewable energy, and nuclear energy development.

“We are also open to cooperation in renewable energy and nuclear energy. We also invite Japan to join together in cooperative collaboration in all fields, including those I mentioned earlier: education, tourism, and people-to-people programmes,” he explained.

“And we will accelerate and help debottleneck existing projects, for example Legok Nangka and Sarulla,” clarified Prabowo.
