Prabowo Tells Singapore PM: Any Misunderstandings Will Be Resolved Openly

President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, 6 July 2026. Prabowo expressed his gratitude for Wong’s visit, stating that the meeting underscored the special relationship between Indonesia and Singapore. “This is my second retreat. This meeting once again demonstrates the unique and special relationship between Indonesia and Singapore,” Prabowo said. Prabowo noted that Indonesia and Singapore are very close partners, sharing common interests as they reside in the same region. “Therefore, stability and prosperity are in our common interest. We understand and realise that prosperity will never come without peace and stability,” he stated. “Peace and stability are efforts we must continuously undertake without pause,” he added. During the occasion, Prabowo revealed that he and PM Wong had engaged in intensive and heartfelt discussions. Indonesia and Singapore subsequently agreed that any misunderstandings would be resolved openly. “We agreed that if there are any misunderstandings or misperceptions, we will resolve them as friends, openly,” Prabowo concluded. PM Wong arrived at the Merdeka Palace with a motorcade around 11:00 AM local time. Prabowo greeted Wong with a handshake before proceeding with a state welcoming ceremony, which included the playing of the national anthems of both Indonesia and Singapore. According to information from the Singapore Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting was part of the annual Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat. The discussions covered the progress of bilateral cooperation as well as regional and global issues. “They will also receive updates on bilateral projects undertaken since the last Leaders’ Retreat in June 2025 in Singapore,” the press release stated.
