Prabowo Tasks Transport Minister and KAI Chief to Build Lampung-Aceh Railway

President Prabowo Subianto has tasked Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi and President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Bobby Rasyidin with immediately realising the Trans Sumatra Railway project. This is a national strategic project connecting the railway line from Bakauheni to Aceh.

The directive was delivered by Prabowo whilst inaugurating the revitalisation of Semarang Tawang Station in Semarang, Central Java, on Thursday (30/7/2026).

“After this, the Trans-Sumatra Railway from Bandar Lampung, where is the southernmost point? Bakauheni, is it? From Bakauheni to the northernmost point,” he said.

Prabowo questioned the readiness of the Minister of Transportation and the KAI President Director to carry out the task.

“Can KAI do it? Can the Minister of Transportation do it? We must give them difficult tasks, don’t give them easy ones,” Prabowo asked.

Not only Sumatra, Prabowo also wants the construction of a railway network in Kalimantan to commence. According to him, this project should ideally run concurrently with the construction of the Trans Sumatra Railway.

“After Trans-Sumatra, later the Trans-Kalimantan, if possible, we start them simultaneously. Indonesia is a great country, Indonesia is a strong country, Indonesia is a prosperous country. We shall prove it,” said Prabowo.
