Prabowo Tasks Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology with Building and Managing Garuda Excellence High School
JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has tasked the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) with building and managing the Garuda Excellence High School. This is stipulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) of the Republic of Indonesia No. 7 of 2026 on Amendments to Presidential Regulation No. 189 of 2024 concerning the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. The Perpres was enacted by President Prabowo Subianto on 9 February 2026 and promulgated on the same day. In its considerations, the Perpres was made to strengthen the construction and management of the Garuda Excellence High School, the implementation of developing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-based teacher talent at the Garuda Excellence High School, and the arrangement of higher education functions. In the same regulation, Prabowo appointed the Directorate General of Science and Technology to carry out the function of building and managing the Garuda Excellence High School. This is regulated in Article 19. The wording is as follows: In carrying out the duties as referred to in Article 18, the Directorate General of Science and Technology shall carry out the functions: a. formulation of policies in the field of science and technology; b. implementation of policies in the field of science and technology; c. construction and management of the Garuda Excellence High School; d. implementation of developing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-based teacher talent at the Garuda Excellence High School; f. implementation of administration of the Directorate General; e. implementation of other functions assigned by the Minister. “This Presidential Regulation shall come into force on the date of its promulgation. To ensure that everyone knows it, it is ordered that it be promulgated by placing it in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia,” states the Perpres.
