Prabowo Targets Solving Indonesia's Waste Problem Within One Year

President Prabowo Subianto has targeted the resolution of Indonesia’s waste problem within one year, including ensuring rivers and waterways are free of rubbish. “Within one year, we must solve the waste problem across Indonesia. All rivers must be clean, all streams must be clean,” the President said during the inauguration of the revitalised Semarang Tawang Station in Central Java, according to an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Thursday. He stated that environmental cleanliness and nature conservation are crucial in supporting the development of the national tourism sector. Beyond the waste issue, the President also urged regional governments and the public to preserve forests and prevent indiscriminate tree felling. “Nature must be protected. Trees must not be cut down carelessly. If necessary, we should plant hundreds of millions of new trees,” he said. The President also recommended that governors, regents, mayors, and all relevant agencies maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability in their respective areas. “I urge governors, regents, mayors, and all agencies in their respective fields to preserve nature and maintain cleanliness,” the President stated. According to the President, a clean and beautiful environment is a key factor in enhancing the tourism appeal of various regions. Prabowo inaugurated Semarang Tawang Station in Central Java on Thursday after the historic building had been officially revitalised for the first time by PT KAI from May to December 2025. The President then tried out the Kereta Nusantara Explorer service, a new offering from PT KAI designed to support tourism, travelling from Semarang to Batang Regency in Central Java.
