President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto targets the revitalisation of 288,000 schools across Indonesia to be completed by 2028. This programme is part of the government’s major investment in the education sector. Prabowo conveyed this during his direct inspection of educational facilities at SMAN 1 Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. “I hope all schools will be finished by 2028. We have, if I’m not mistaken, 288,000 schools. If this year means 87,000 will be completed by the end of the year, that means we still have 200,000 left. If 100,000 in 2027, 100,000 in 2028, all Indonesian schools will have been repaired,” said Prabowo. Prabowo explained that the government has significantly increased the number of schools being revitalised. If last year’s budget only covered around 17,000 schools, this year’s target has risen to 70,000 schools, with a total achievement of 87,000 schools by the end of the year. “This year already 70,000, last year’s budget 17,000 schools. This year 70,000 schools. Next year, my target is more than 100,000 if possible,” he clarified. He stressed that school improvements are the government’s top priority because education is the key to the nation’s revival. Therefore, the government will continue to pay great attention to the education sector as the foundation of Indonesia’s future. “Schools are very important, education is the key to our nation’s revival. I will pay attention and invest massively in the field of education for the future of our nation as a whole. Every Indonesian child must be given the best education,” explained Prabowo.
