JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has targeted the completion of renovations for 288,000 schools by 2028. “I hope all schools will be finished by 2028. If we’re not mistaken, we have 288,000 schools,” said President Prabowo Subianto after inspecting the facilities at SMAN 1 Cilacap, broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Wednesday (29/4/2026). “This year, 70,000 schools (are under renovation),” Prabowo stated. For this year, 2026, he hopes more schools will be renovated. “If this year means 87,000 will be completed by the end of the year, that means we still have 200,000 left. If 100,000 (in) 2027, 100,000 (in) 2028, all Indonesian schools will have been repaired,” Prabowo explained. In addition to renovations, Prabowo also wants to improve the quality of schools in the country. “The schools that have been repaired must also have their quality enhanced, yes,” he emphasised. He wants every classroom in schools to have a digital screen or smartboard. In this way, the smartboard can make learning more interactive and help students if they want to review a lesson. “Yes, smart classroom. Now it’s just one per school, right? Some have two. This is great, already two. So our target is still perhaps three or four per school. This year, we will strive for three additional ones across Indonesia,” he said. Furthermore, Prabowo will prepare a central studio in Jakarta for the best teachers in their fields. He wants Indonesian children to receive the best education. “English, yes, we take native speakers, they can teach everyone who needs it. Mandarin is the same. We want to add that our school children must be able to speak English, Mandarin, and several foreign languages starting from primary school, yes,” Prabowo stated.
