Prabowo Targets Mass Production of Electric Sedans by 2028

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has targeted mass production of electric sedans by 2028. Prabowo stated that the company responsible for producing the electric sedans will soon be established. “And indeed, our plan is that I hope by 2028 we will mass-produce electric sedan cars,” said Prabowo during the inauguration of the electric bus and truck vehicle factory of PT Vektor Sakti Industri (PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk) in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026). “We are also forming a company to produce sedans, yes, electric sedans,” he added. According to him, the existence of PT VKTR is capable of increasing production volume to meet domestic needs through a state-owned enterprise cooperation concept. The former Commander General (Danjen) of Kopassus received a report that Vektor is capable of producing 10,000 units of electric buses using 40 percent domestic components. “The TKDN, the local content, is now already 40 percent. And in a short time, perhaps two years from now, it will reach 60 percent. Two years after that, it will reach 80 percent. This is something very proud of. So there is already a bus industry, a truck industry,” Prabowo stated. In addition, for the same purpose, Indonesia has launched a programme to electrify 100 gigawatts (GW) within two years. “Later, there will be no more diesel power plants, no more using solar. No. With that, we will close 13 diesel power plants under PLN, we will close them,” said Prabowo.
