President Prabowo Subianto has set a target for the renovation of all schools in Indonesia to be completed by 2029, as part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of educational facilities across all regions. Speaking at a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, President Prabowo said the government is targeting the renovation of 77,000 schools to be completed this year. The programme will then be scaled up with a target of renovating 100,000 schools each in 2027 and 2028. “We are not easily satisfied, the journey is still long, but we want to improve all our schools. This year we will complete the renovation of 77,000 schools. Next year our target is 100,000 schools, and in 2028, 100,000 schools. We hope that by 2029 all schools in Indonesia will have been renovated,” said Prabowo. To accelerate the implementation of the programme, President Prabowo stated that the government will disburse the renovation budget directly to headteachers. This mechanism will be accompanied by oversight from school committees involving parents, teachers, and other relevant parties to ensure transparent and targeted use of the budget. “We will send the money directly to the headteacher, supervised by the parents’ committee, the teachers’ committee, and so on,” the President said. According to Prabowo, this direct fund disbursement scheme has shown positive results based on reports received by the government. The Head of State admitted he had asked for confirmation from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education regarding the programme’s implementation and received good feedback. “It turns out the results are very good. If I am not mistaken, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education is here, and the feedback you have received is quite good,” said Prabowo. President Prabowo stressed that the government will continue to accelerate the improvement of educational infrastructure as part of efforts to enhance the quality of education services and create a more suitable learning environment for students throughout Indonesia.
