President Prabowo Subianto has set an ambitious target to complete the renovation of all schools in Indonesia by 2029. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to improving the quality of educational infrastructure evenly across the country.

During a cabinet meeting, President Prabowo outlined the roadmap for the educational infrastructure improvements, stating that the government aims to renovate 77,000 schools this year. The target will continue to increase in the following years. “We will not be complacent; the journey is still long, but we want to repair all our schools. This year we will complete the renovation of 77,000 schools. Next year our target is 100,000 schools, and in 2028, another 100,000. We hope that by 2029, all schools in Indonesia will be renovated,” the President stated.

To accelerate implementation on the ground, the government will implement a direct fund disbursement scheme to the schools. President Prabowo emphasised that renovation budgets will be transferred directly to the principals’ accounts to cut through bureaucracy. He stressed that oversight remains a top priority, with the mechanism being supervised by school committees consisting of parents, teachers, and other relevant parties.

“The funds will be sent directly to the school principal, supervised by the parent committee, the teacher committee, and so on,” Prabowo explained. According to the President, this direct funding scheme has already shown significant results based on reports received by the government. He also confirmed the programme’s effectiveness directly with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education. The President views this acceleration of infrastructure improvement as crucial to creating a proper learning environment and improving the overall quality of education services for all Indonesian students.
