Prabowo Targets Completion of Nationwide School Improvements by End of 2028

President Prabowo Subianto stated this during a speech at SMAN 1 Cilacap, Donan Village, Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday (29/4/2026). Prabowo initially revealed that the purpose of his visit was to check the smooth implementation of the school revitalisation programme. “I came to see the school improvements. Alhamdulillah, we are repairing the schools, and we will repair all schools throughout Indonesia,” said Prabowo. He explained that in Central Java, 1,500 high schools have already begun repairs since last year’s budget, which covered 17,000 schools nationwide. This year, he has budgeted for improvements to 70,000 schools. “In Central Java, there are 1,500 high schools, and we have started repairing them, sir. Last year, we budgeted for around 17,000 schools across Indonesia, but for the 2026 budget, we will repair 70,000 schools throughout Indonesia,” he stated. He then reaffirmed his commitment to continue efforts to improve schools, with a target for the entire programme to be completed by the end of 2028. “In the coming years, I will strive hard for at least an additional 100,000 schools. So, I calculate that by the end of 2028, all schools in Indonesia will have been repaired,” he said. Not only schools, but Prabowo wants all facilities to be improved as well. This way, he hopes that education in Indonesia will become better because, according to him, it is the key to the nation’s revival. “And not only that, we must not only repair; we must improve the quality and add facilities to our schools throughout Indonesia because education is the key to a nation’s revival. So, my children, teachers, education is the key to the revival of the Indonesian nation,” he said. Prabowo stated that his commitment is not just empty rhetoric. He is confident that by improving the education sector, Indonesia will rise in the next five years. “And believe me, I have seen all the data, I have seen the figures; our country is truly very rich. Truly very rich. Not just as a slogan but real. I predict that in 3, 4, 5 years, we will rise extraordinarily,” Prabowo continued.
