Prabowo Targets Completion of 5,000 Village Bridges by End of 2026

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto revealed that the government has built 1,000 village bridges as of July 2026.

He also asked that the target of building 5,000 bridges be completed within 2026.

“As of July 2026, out of the 5,000 village bridges that the rural population has strongly called for, we have already completed 1,000 (bridges),” said Prabowo whilst delivering remarks at the Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, 20 July 2026.

With the works having progressed this far, Prabowo asked the Bridge Repair Acceleration Task Force (Satgas), led by Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, to complete the programme in the near future.

Prabowo then asked KSAD General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak about what completion could be achieved by the end of 2026. The KSAD replied that the task force would pursue completion in line with the target of 5,000 bridges.

“5,000 (bridges) will be finished in 2026. Good,” said Prabowo.

The government had earlier targeted the construction of 5,000 suspension bridges by the end of 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen community connectivity all the way to remote areas.

In a statement on Thursday (25 June), Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that as many as 2,500 bridges were targeted for completion by August 2026.

He said the suspension bridge construction was being carried out through cooperation between the government, the Indonesian Army and local communities. The works are intended to ensure faster, safer and more even connectivity right across the remotest corners of Indonesia.

“In many areas that have been separated by rivers for decades, the presence of a single bridge can transform people’s lives,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

Construction will continue to be accelerated so as to reach 5,000 bridges by the end of 2026. (Ant)
