Prabowo targets building and renovating 300–400 hospitals in three years

President Prabowo Subianto is targeting the construction and renovation of between 300 and 400 hospitals in all Indonesian districts over the next three years as part of efforts to strengthen national health services. “I have planned together with the Health Minister that in the coming three years we will build new, if possible repair, renovate 300-350 up to 400 hospitals in all districts in Indonesia,” President Prabowo said whilst inaugurating the KH Muhammad Thohir Krui Regional General Hospital in Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung Province. According to President Prabowo, the programme has been planned together with the Ministry of Health and is one of the government’s priorities to improve public access to quality health services. In addition, the government is also targeting the modernisation of around 10,000 community health centres across Indonesia to strengthen basic health services at the regional level. President Prabowo stressed that the programme is part of the transformation of the national health system so that the public, especially those in remote areas, can obtain better health services without having to travel long distances to major cities. The government is currently beginning to realise the programme. Throughout 2025, the government is building 22 regional general hospitals, whilst in 2026 a further 22 new hospitals will be built. Furthermore, President Prabowo stated that the government is targeting the modernisation of around 350 hospitals in the next three years. The programme has shown progress with the completion of the first phase of 20 hospitals, which have now begun operating and serving the public. “Alhamdulillah, the first 20 hospitals have been completed and have started serving the community,” he explained. President Prabowo hopes that the acceleration of the construction and renovation of health facilities can strengthen the quality of medical services throughout Indonesia whilst reducing the gap in health access between regions.
