Prabowo Targets 30,000 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives Operational by 2026
President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has stated that the government has so far succeeded in establishing 10,000 Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperatives (KDKMP) as part of efforts to strengthen the people’s economy from the grassroots level. Of the 10,000 KDKMP that have been built, Prabowo said 3,300 are already operating optimally.
“And the target for the end of 2026 is for 30,000 Red and White Village and Sub-district Cooperatives to be established and operating well,” Prabowo said during the Annual Session of the MPR-DPR RI on Friday (14/8).
Through KDKMP, Prabowo expressed confidence that Indonesia will control its own supply chain, thereby reducing dependence on the global market.
“We are not anti-market; we cannot be anti-market. The economy is based on the movement of the market, but the market can be manipulated, the market can be damaged, the market can be controlled by those who command large capital. Therefore, our people must be helped, organised and empowered through cooperatives. Cooperatives that are assisted, strengthened and empowered,” Prabowo asserted.
Furthermore, Prabowo stated that all government-subsidised goods will be distributed through KDKMP. “So that subsidised goods cannot and must not be traded. Subsidies are the people’s money; subsidised goods are subsidised by the people’s money, for the people, and are not merchandise,” he concluded.
The KDKMP programme is one of the national strategic programmes launched by President Prabowo Subianto to improve public welfare.
Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has denied reports claiming that the salary of Red and White Village Cooperative (Kopdes) managers reaches Rp16 million per month.
BPJS Kesehatan has confirmed that deductions for Kopdes Merah Putih administrators and managers are taken from income, not from the state budget (APBN).
The official salary figure for Kopdes Merah Putih managers has not yet been announced, but estimates range from Rp5–8 million with state budget support for two years.
According to Gus Ipul, the integration is expected not only to facilitate public access to services but also to strengthen economic activity at the village level.
