Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the government is currently waiting for President Prabowo Subianto’s schedule to inaugurate the first phase of construction for the 100 Giga Watt (GW) solar power plant programme. He stated that the government has prepared a masterplan for the phased development of the 100 GW solar power plants. Bali is being considered as one of the locations for the initial groundbreaking ceremony. “I am currently trying to secure the President’s schedule for the inauguration of the first phase of the 100 GW solar power plant. We have prepared a masterplan with careful planning. We might hold it in Bali,” Bahlil said at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Acting Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tri Winarno, confirmed that the 100 GW capacity has been included in the revised Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL). “The 100 GW has been included in the revised RUPTL, that is peak load, 100 GWp,” Tri stated.

President Prabowo Subianto is accelerating the green energy transition, targeting a massive solar power plant capacity. He aims for Indonesia to reach an installed capacity of at least 100 GW by 2029. Prabowo emphasised that the government will maximise the utilisation of solar power within the next three years. “We want to move very quickly to use electricity from solar energy. We have a plan and we are determined to proceed as fast as possible; within three years, we want to achieve 100 GW of solar energy,” Prabowo said at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo.

The acceleration plan for solar power plant construction is considered urgent. According to Prabowo, the escalation of conflict and growing geopolitical uncertainty, particularly in the Middle East, poses a threat to national energy supply stability. “For us, this is more urgent because the geopolitical situation in the Middle East creates strategic uncertainty for our energy security,” he stressed. As a precaution, the government is continuously working to secure supply through the utilisation of domestic resources. Besides solar power, Indonesia also possesses significant potential in geothermal energy and is currently boosting the production of biofuels such as B50 biodiesel and bioethanol.
