Prabowo takes direct note of PBNU Rais Aam's message at congress closing

President Prabowo Subianto revealed that he directly absorbed the messages conveyed by KH Miftachul Akhyar, Rais Aam of PBNU for the 2026-2031 period, during his speech at the closing ceremony of the 35th NU Congress in Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java, on Monday.

“Earlier, I directly absorbed the messages from the elected Rais Aam. Today I was able to grasp them directly. So, I believe this is our shared obligation: the focus, attention and objective of our national transformation strategy, which I now lead and steer, is how to lift as many Indonesians as possible out of poverty,” said Prabowo during his speech at the congress closing ceremony.

The 35th NU Congress, held over a full week in Tambakberas, Jombang, concluded with the election of KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, known as Gus Kikin, as Chairman of PBNU for the 2026-2031 period, and KH Miftachul Akhyar as Rais Aam of PBNU for the same term of service. Gus Kikin is the caretaker of Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School.

At the closing ceremony, the newly elected PBNU Chairman and Rais Aam delivered their speeches before President Prabowo. In his address, KH Miftachul offered guidance and messages on leadership values, including the principle that a leader’s primary purpose is the welfare of the people.

The Rais Aam also expressed his hope that President Prabowo would continue to pay attention to PBNU, as the work carried out by Nahdlatul Ulama is ultimately for the benefit of the community.

“I hope the President will also take note of everything we do, for the sake of the community and the welfare of the people,” said KH Miftachul to President Prabowo.

Agreeing with the Rais Aam’s views, the President reaffirmed that his main objective in leading the nation is the prosperity and welfare of the people.

“The focus, attention and objective of our national transformation strategy, which I now lead and steer, is how to lift as many Indonesians as possible out of poverty. We must be bold, and I have calculated carefully down to the last rupiah. I have done the sums, and I am confident and believe we will succeed. We will lift millions of our people out of poverty, and we have already proven this in our first two years,” said the President in his speech at the closing ceremony of the 35th NU Congress on Monday.
