Prabowo Supports Establishment of IIM and IIT Campuses in Indonesia

President Prabowo Subianto supports the establishment of an Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) campus and the exploration of an Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) campus in Indonesia, as part of strengthening educational cooperation with India. “In the field of education, both Prime Minister Modi and I support the establishment of an IIM campus and also the possibility of establishing an IIT campus in Indonesia,” Prabowo said, as quoted from a Presidential Secretariat Press Bureau release in Jakarta on Tuesday. In a joint statement following a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Merdeka Palace, Prabowo said the support is part of the commitment of both countries to strengthen cooperation in education, research, technology, culture, and people-to-people relations between Indonesia and India. “We also support increasing the number of Indonesian students studying in India,” Prabowo said. In the cultural field, Prabowo said Indonesia welcomes the planned restoration and conservation of the Prambanan Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Indonesian government also welcomes the designation of 2026-2027 as the Tagore-Dewantara Year for Indonesia-India cultural and educational diplomacy. This momentum marks the 100th anniversary of the meeting between Indian poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore and the Father of Indonesian Education, Ki Hajar Dewantara. Prabowo expressed hope that the various agreements reached can be realised soon. “We are confident that these agreements can be implemented immediately to provide tangible results and benefits for the people of both countries,” he said. In addition to educational cooperation, Modi said Indonesia and India agreed to strengthen collaboration in the space sector, technology development, and human resource capacity building. “We have had deep cooperation for years, and going forward we have taken important decisions to collaborate in the space sector as well as technology development and capacity building,” Modi said.
