Prabowo: Support for Palestinian independence non-negotiable

“We are on good terms with all powers, but what we cannot bargain away is supporting the struggle for Palestinian independence.”

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto affirmed that Indonesia’s support for the struggle for Palestinian independence is a non-negotiable principle of its foreign policy.

“We are on good terms with all powers, but what we cannot bargain away is supporting the struggle for Palestinian independence,” said Prabowo in a speech at the 28th anniversary celebration of the National Awakening Party (PKB) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on Thursday evening.

The President said Indonesia will continue to pursue a free and active foreign policy by respecting all countries and world powers. As a non-aligned nation, Indonesia does not wish to have enemies or to disturb other countries.

“We are grateful that we are non-aligned, we have no enemies, we respect all countries, we respect all powers. We want to be free and active,” he said.

“Indonesia’s foreign policy under the government I lead is one of being a good neighbour. We want to be good neighbors,” he said.

Despite his commitment to maintaining good relations with all countries, the President affirmed that Indonesia’s stance in supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence will not change.

Prabowo stressed that Indonesia’s main defence strength lies in its total people’s defence system and its people’s love for their nation and state.

“We do not want to disturb others. But the entire Indonesian people will defend their sovereignty, defend their independence, and defend their future,” said Prabowo.
