Prabowo summons Minister of Higher Education and BNN Head to discuss drug eradication
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto summoned several officials, including the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, and the Head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN), Suyudi Ario Seto, to the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday to discuss drug eradication.
Brian stated that during the meeting, he was requested to discuss efforts to address drug-related issues, including the utilisation of research results from universities to support drug handling.
“Regarding the eradication of drug problems, I was also asked to bring one of the researchers from the University of Indonesia (UI) concerning drugs, addiction, and so on,” Brian said upon arriving at the Presidential Palace Complex.
He noted that research developed in universities will be synergised with the needs of the BNN and the Ministry of Health, including for therapeutic purposes.
Brian mentioned that the research discussed covers various aspects related to drugs, including both human impact and the substances used.
“Everything related to drugs, whether it is the technology for detection, the cure, or perhaps how seized goods can be utilised,” he said.
Brian added that research results from universities could later be utilised by other agencies according to the requirements of drug handling.
“In our campuses, what we research can be utilised by other institutions,” he said.
In addition to Brian and Suyudi, the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, the Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, and the Deputy Minister of Health, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, were also in attendance.
Supratman stated that he would also submit a report to President Prabowo during the limited meeting. When asked about the specific content of his report, he declined to elaborate further.
“I will report to the President later,” he said briefly.
Supratman arrived at the Presidential Palace Complex at approximately 12:30 WIB, followed by Suyudi, Brian, and other officials to attend the limited meeting led by President Prabowo.
