Prabowo Summons Bahlil to Presidential Palace, Discusses Oil Supply and Strait of Hormuz Closure
President Prabowo Subianto has summoned Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Bahlil stated he would report several matters to Prabowo, including the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East and Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
“It likely concerns current conditions, geopolitics, specifically the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran,” Bahlil told journalists at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
“This is also to anticipate concerns about global oil supply, as we are still importing fuel ahead of the Islamic holiday season,” he added.
When asked about mitigation measures the government is implementing, Bahlil said the ministry would first hold a meeting with the National Energy Council before reporting to Prabowo.
“Tomorrow, God willing, I will hold a National Energy Council meeting first, then I will report,” he stated.
Bahlil further acknowledged that Brent crude prices have begun rising gradually as the Middle Eastern conflict escalates. However, he emphasised that national fuel reserves remain in a safe condition.
“We still have sufficient supply for approximately 20 days,” Bahlil concluded.
