Prabowo Summons Acting BI Governor to Palace
President Prabowo Subianto summoned Acting Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday afternoon, 27 July 2026. Destry, who is filling the vacancy after Perry Warjiyo resigned as central bank governor, was accompanied by Thomas Djiwandono. Thomas Djiwandono is a BI Deputy Governor and also Prabowo’s nephew. The president also summoned officials who are members of the Financial System Stability Committee. “It was an invitation for a coordination meeting,” Destry told reporters at the palace on Monday, 27 July 2026. She stated that the central bank continues to maintain financial stability despite the dynamics within BI’s leadership. “The exchange rate remains our priority,” Destry said. Prabowo Subianto has not yet appointed a replacement for Perry Warjiyo as Governor of Bank Indonesia. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the president only received Perry’s resignation letter on Sunday, 26 July 2026, so there has been no further discussion regarding a definitive candidate for BI Governor. “It was only yesterday. So the President has not, within a day, immediately wanted to appoint a definitive candidate,” Prasetyo said at the Bank Indonesia office on Monday morning, 27 July 2026, as quoted from a video statement by the Presidential Secretariat’s Press, Media, and Information Bureau. Separately, Commission XI of the House of Representatives has not yet received an assignment from the Deliberative Body to conduct a fit and proper test. Commission XI Deputy Chairman Dolfie Othniel said he is still waiting for the name of the central bank leadership candidate to be proposed by the president. “According to the law, the president will propose a candidate for BI Governor to obtain approval from Commission XI of the DPR,” he said when contacted on Monday, 27 July 2026.
