Prabowo Suggests Two-Year Mark is the Right Momentum for Cabinet Reshuffle

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the second year of his leadership would be an appropriate momentum should he decide to reshuffle the Red and White Cabinet. He believes that two years of service provides sufficient time for his officials to demonstrate their capabilities.

Prabowo made these remarks in response to questions regarding whether the period approaching his second year in office would be the ideal moment for a cabinet reshuffle. “I think it is something logical, two years. Thus, each individual has had time to prove their abilities, and so on,” Prabables said during the ‘President Prabowo Answers’ programme on Friday (18/9).

Prabowo noted that he continuously and relentlessly evaluates the performance of his staff. On the other hand, he mentioned that his team has been working very well.

He cited, for example, the target for food self-sufficiency being achieved in a shorter timeframe than originally projected. At the start of his leadership, he aimed to achieve food self-sufficiency within four years. However, the Ministry of Agriculture, under the leadership of Andi Amran Sulaiman, was able to achieve this within just one year.

At the same time, Prabowo stated that even if a reshuffle occurs, the reasons could be varied. He ensured that he would prioritise capability and competence in each ministerial position.

“So, if there is a reshuffle later, I believe it would be, among other things, for promotions, and certainly, in this organisation, we must always seek ‘the right man in the right place’, competence, and if someone is perhaps not suitable for a particular position, we must be able to replace them with the right person,” he said.

Since the beginning of his leadership in October 2024, Prabowo has conducted six cabinet reshuffles. The first reshuffle took place in February 2025, when the position of Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, held by Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, was replaced by Brian Yuliarto. Most recently, Prabowo replaced the position of Finance Minister on Monday, 14 September 2026. The Finance Minister post, previously held by Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, was taken over by Suahasil Nazara, who was previously the Deputy Finance Minister under Purbaya.
