Prabowo Suddenly Summons Chatib Basri and Luhut to the Palace, What's the Matter?
President Prabowo Subianto summoned National Economic Council (DEN) chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and DEN member Chatib Basri to the State Palace on Tuesday (9/6/2026). Chatib confirmed he received an invitation from Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya to meet President Prabowo, though he declined to detail the agenda.
‘Ask Mr Luhut,’ Chatib told reporters on Tuesday (9/6/2026). Chatib had been rumoured to be replacing Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Responding to this, he claimed no knowledge of the circulating reports. ‘I don’t know,’ said Chatib.
On the same occasion, Luhut stated this was a routine meeting schedule with the president. ‘We report whatever the Economic Council does every month or every five weeks,’ said Luhut. Luhut was reluctant to disclose the specifics of the report to the president. However, Luhut commented on the recent rise in Bank Indonesia’s benchmark interest rate. ‘Our economy is good, the fundamentals are okay, but some attention is needed at certain points because of this Gulf war. The Strait of Hormuz conflict is still ongoing,’ said Luhut.
