Prabowo Suddenly Claims Some Officials Are Disappointing—What's Behind It?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Prabowo Subianto has assessed that Indonesia continues to face various difficulties and shortcomings. According to him, this situation is inseparable from the performance of certain officials and bureaucrats who have yet to fulfil their responsibilities to the nation.

This statement was made by Prabowo during the inaugural ceremony of 218 bailey bridges, armco bridges, and pioneer bridges across Indonesia, conducted virtually on Monday, 9 February 2026. He noted that the government recognises there remain numerous challenges that must be addressed to improve the nation’s condition.

“We are aware that this nation still faces many obstacles, many difficulties, and many shortcomings. These shortcomings are truly shortcomings from officials and bureaucrats and personnel. I see many working exceptionally well, but on the other hand there remain certain leadership elements that are disappointing in terms of their responsibility to the nation,” Prabowo said in his remarks.

Prabowo stressed that he does not wish merely to convey pleasant or agreeable matters. Consequently, he is willing to speak openly about existing conditions to the public.

“Let us not speak sweetly or as though everything is fine. I wish to convey this because we are aware and understand that our world now is filled with dangerous dynamics,” Prabowo stated.

According to Prabowo, this openness is important because of the uncertain global situation. He noted that the world is facing dangerous dynamics, with various conflicts occurring in several regions, such as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

“Some time ago we witnessed a major war in Europe, in Ukraine, and now nearly the entire Middle East is affected. Although we are geographically far from those places, our world has truly become small. What happens in one region influences another,” Prabowo said.
