Prabowo Submits Four Names for Bank Indonesia Board of Governors

President Prabowo Subianto has officially submitted four names as candidates for the Board of Governors of Bank Indonesia (BI) to the House of Representatives (DPR). The proposal follows the resignation of Governor Perry Warjiyo on 25 July 2026 for personal reasons. House Speaker Puan Maharani announced the list after receiving the presidential letter. Based on data as of 13 August 2026, the four proposed figures are internal members and technocrats within the central bank, signalling an effort to maintain continuity in national monetary policy. The proposed structure forms an internal succession chain. Destry Damayanti, who currently serves as Acting Governor, has been nominated as the sole candidate for Governor. The position of Senior Deputy Governor, which would be vacated by Destry, is proposed to be filled by Aida S. Budiman. Meanwhile, for one Deputy Governor seat, the President has submitted two names for the selection process: Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori. The move to select internal figures has been viewed positively by market participants. Citing the Financial Times, Destry’s candidacy is seen as a safe technocratic choice to ensure the central bank’s independence amid global economic dynamics. It should be noted that these four individuals are currently presidential nominees. The DPR will only process the letter after the session opens on 14 August 2026. The next stage will involve Commission XI of the DPR conducting a fit and proper test before granting final approval and appointment. For Solikin M. Juhro, this marks his second time participating in the selection process, having previously been nominated in January 2026.
