President Prabowo Subianto gave firm instructions to the ranks of ministries and agencies to immediately simplify or eliminate regulations that hinder the national investment flow at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/4/2026). This strategic step is taken as a government effort to accelerate economic growth through the optimisation of the permitting process. As reported by Investor Daily, the policy was emphasised to ensure that all investment procedures run efficiently without convoluted bureaucratic obstacles. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming as well as CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, revealed that the president’s directive emerged after he reported the achievements of investment realisation for the first quarter of 2026. “We must not let our regulations become obstacles instead,” said Rosan, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM. Rosan explained that the Head of State is paying special attention to a comprehensive evaluation of various existing permitting regulations. If inefficient rules are found, the president has requested that they be eliminated. “Our regulations that actually hinder. Those technical approvals must also, said the President, if they hinder, they are not necessary,” said Rosan, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM. In addition to trimming rules, the government is committed to standardising regulations by referring to best practices at the international level. This includes comparisons with countries in the Southeast Asian region. These efforts to improve the investment climate are also directed towards following the standards set by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to maintain Indonesia’s global competitiveness. “So keep improving, the President said earlier, the investment climate in Indonesia. We look at the benchmarking with ASEAN countries, with OECD regulations and others,” concluded Rosan, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM.
