Prabowo States South Korean President Requested Visit to Pyongyang

President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that the President of South Korea has requested his assistance in opening a dialogue channel with North Korea. This request was conveyed directly during President Prabowo’s recent state visit to South Korea.

During a meeting with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (31/7), President Prabowo expressed his readiness to undertake this peace mission if formally requested. He emphasised his willingness to visit Pyongyang to create a space for inter-Korean communication.

“The President of South Korea asked me if I could visit North Korea to open some form of dialogue. I replied, with respect and willingness, that if requested, I will go to North Korea,” stated President Prabost.

According to the President, this request is a testament to the world’s trust in Indonesia’s consistent ‘free and active’ foreign policy. Indonesia is viewed as a neutral party with no interest in interfering in the domestic affairs of other nations, making it an acceptable mediator for conflicting parties.

Prabowo continued that this principle of non-intervention has also been applied by Indonesia in addressing the conflict in Myanmar. This approach allows Indonesia to maintain communication with all parties involved in conflicts without losing diplomatic credibility.

President Prabowo reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the legacy of a non-aligned foreign policy. He ensured that Indonesia will not join any military pacts, choosing instead to build good relations with all neighbouring countries. “Indonesia is considered to have no interest in interfering in the domestic affairs of any country. That is what we hold firmly. I am striving to improve all relations; I am striving for reconciliation and to provide an approach,” he concluded.
