Prabowo States Indonesia Implements a Foreign Policy of ‘Free and Active’: We Don’t Want Any Enemies

Nganjuk, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto affirmed that Indonesia’s strength lies in national unity, respect for the teachings of the nation’s founders, and a commitment to implementing a ‘free and active’ foreign policy that promotes friendship with all countries.

This was conveyed by the Head of State when delivering a speech at the inauguration of the Ibu Marsinah Museum and the Transit House in Nglundo Village, Sukomoro District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

“Actually, I learned a lot from the teachings of Bung Karno. So, Bung Karno is not the property of one party. Bung Karno is the property of the entire Indonesian nation. Bung Karno, Bung Hatta belong to everyone. Syahrir, all of them, that is where our strength lies. If we want to be great, if we want to progress. So, we take strength from all parties. That is the greatness of Indonesia. That’s why many regions are at war. Indonesia is free and active, a thousand friends are too few. One enemy is too many. We respect everyone,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo also emphasized that Indonesia continues to uphold a ‘free and active’ foreign policy and chooses to be a good partner for all countries. According to the Head of State, this principle is part of the Indonesian nation’s culture, which highly values respect for others.

“We respect and we don’t want any enemies. That’s why, when I became President, I initiated Indonesia’s foreign policy to be a ‘free and active’ policy, non-aligned, and Indonesia wants to be a good neighbour. We want to be the good neighbour, our policy is the good neighbour policy,” he added.

On this occasion, President Prabowo also mentioned the government’s efforts to strengthen relations with friendly countries and neighbouring countries, including resolving a number of bilateral issues that have been ongoing for years.

“So, I improved relations with Singapore. Agreements that have not been resolved for decades, we resolved them. With Vietnam, we resolved them. Mr. Jokowi, we resolved everything. With China, we improved them. Alhamdulillah, now there are not frequent conflicts in Natuna. With Malaysia, I am trying. Hopefully, we will resolve it well. With PNG, we are good. With Australia, we are good. All neighbours, with Thailand, we are good,” said Prabowo.
