Prabowo States Indonesia-France Relations at Highest Level in History
President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia-France bilateral relations are currently at the highest level in history. This was communicated during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday, 28 May.
“Your Majesty, Indonesia-France relations are at what I believe is the highest level in history,” Prabowo said, as broadcast via the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
Prabowo noted that the relationship is currently robust and aligned on several international issues. He attributed this to President Macron’s direct support for the bilateral ties.
“In several areas, Indonesia and France share the same positions, and our bilateral relations are now very strong. This is due to President Macron’s direct support,” Prabowo stated.
He added that Indonesia-France relations are progressing well, with cooperation in science and technology continuing to grow. In the education sector, Prabowo emphasised the Indonesian government’s efforts to strengthen collaboration with France.
During the event, Prabowo also praised Macron’s international leadership for its firm and consistent stance on principles upheld by the French Republic. The president expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended by the French government to him and the Indonesian delegation during the visit to Paris.
Prabowo noted that this year he has visited France three times. Additionally, Indonesia was honoured last year to be invited to participate in the French National Day Military Parade (Bastille Day) on 14 July 2025.
Following the meeting, on Thursday evening local time (28/5), Prabowo attended a state dinner. He wore the Grand Croix de la Légion d’Honneur award, conferred by Macron in 2025 in Magelang.
Previously, Prabowo and Macron had shared a dinner after attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Saturday, 24 January 2026. Prabowo was greeted directly by Macron and received a guard of honour accompanied by a military band.
