Prabowo States Aviation Fuel Can Be Produced from Used Cooking Oil

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that aviation turbine fuel can be produced from used cooking oil as a means of implementing clean and renewable energy.

“Even avtur in the future will come from used oil, from waste, from the remnants of cooking oil; we can process it into avtur,” said Prabowo during the inauguration of the electric bus and truck vehicle factory of PT Vektor Sakti Industri (PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk) in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026).

Currently, avtur can also be produced from the palm oil commodity. This serves as evidence that the country can move away from carbon and fossil energy.

“Indeed, the country needs it; we must leave carbon energy from fossils. We will only use it for strategic purposes. But now avtur can come from palm oil, and we have plenty of palm oil,” stated Prabowo.

He revealed that the government plans to build an electric sedan factory for mass production in 2028.

“And soon we will open processing centres, refineries for this. We will make massive investments in that sector,” emphasised Prabowo.
